Cumbrian artist, Irene Rogan invites you to witness the performative installation of 'An Odyssey: Encountering Fear and Hope'.
The event will take place on the incoming tide (between 11.00 and 12.30 p.m.) on 20th October and will become visible as you approach and pass over Foxfield Viaduct. Forming part of the wider 'Unpublished Tour' art project, the waters of the Duddon estuary provide a dramatic stage upon which the artist will be carried inland on a raft. This process, the timeless act of journeying, and the artist's embodied experience of the sea's elemental forces, its moods and rhythms are presented as a performance. The raft will then be tethered near the viaduct and transformed into a temporary site-specific installation (visible also from the embankment).
The impermanence of the work, when set against a backdrop of nature's transcendent beauty, is intended to remind, or to provoke, a sense of our fragile relationship with the material world.
Filmmaker Larry Campbell is also collaborating with Irene and basing his work on the actual journey of the raft from its construction at Millom Network Centre to installation at Foxfield Viaduct.
